This exceptional and rare provincial Swedish baptism bowl dated 1792 and initialed.
This stunningly worn Swedish bowl was given to a baby boy for his baptism in 1792.
Born in a remote village in Sweden, we were able to trace his birth record to the initials inscribed on the bottom of the bowl.
It's rare for a bowl like this to survive because many were used for practical, domestic chores throughout the 1800s. We think this bowl must have been cherished and passed down before being used later on.
The patina and honest wear of this antique bowl is really special and we hope we can find it the right home to continue its history.
Inscribed with an old Swedish family symbol and dated "1855". The family symbol originated from Älvdalen, Dalarna County, Sweden. This bowl would have been used for cooking.
A true sculptural form. The patina and hand carved markings give it a wonderful sense of time.
